Biblical Archaeology Tour of Turkey 

We meet at 09.00 am in your hotel. We spend the day exploring the treasures of Istanbul, the historic city formerly known as Constantinople. Due to its strategic location astride both Asia and Europe, Istanbul served as the capital of a series of empires. We’ll start at the Blue Mosque, one of the world’s most famous religious buildings. Taking its name from the tens of thousands of blue iznik tiles decorating its interior.We also visit the ancient Hippodrome with Obelisk of Theodosius, Snake Pillar and German Fountain of Wilhelm II. Byzantine Hippodrome was the heart of Constantinople’s political and sporting life, and the scene of games and riots. Our discoveries of Istanbul’s Old City continue with a visit to Hagia Sophia. Completed under Emperor Justinian in AD 537, its magnificent dome remains a true wonder of the Byzantine world. Then, it’s a short walk to Topkapi Palace, another highlight of the city’s glorious past. The complex of grand pavilions and courtyards was built in the middle of the 15th century and served as the residence of Ottoman sultans for the next 400 years. Today, it is one of the world’s richest museums, with a staggering collection of arms, porcelain, and priceless treasures.  Overnight in Istanbul. Included meals: Breakfast

We’ll walk from our hotel in Old City (Sultanahmet) to the water for a relaxing ferry cruise along the Bosporus, the strait dividing the city and linking the Marmara and Black Sea. Drive to Assos (Behramkale) from Troy through scenic North Aegean countryside. Walk through the charming village of Behramkale. Visit the Temple of Athena at the hilltop acropolis for breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and the Greek island of Lesbos. Overnight in Assos.

Explore the ancient city of Pergamon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Churches of Revelation. Visit the Acropolis with its dramatic hillside theater, the Temple of Trajan, the famous Library of Pergamon, and the Altar of Zeus. Short drive to Akhisar, the site of ancient Thyatira, another one of the Seven Churches of Revelation.Tour the small but significant archaeological site, including the remains of ancient columns, church ruins, and city walls. Learn about Thyatira’s historical importance as a trade center, known for its guilds and early Christian community. Visit the impressive Roman Agora of Smyrna, right in the heart of modern Izmir. See the remains of basilicas, arches, and colonnaded streets. Discover the blend of ancient and modern as you walk through the bustling Kemeraltı bazaar nearby. Overnight in Kuşadası.

Walk through the well-preserved ancient city: the massive Roman theater, the Temple of Apollo and the necropolis. Visit the Pamukkale travertine terraces—unique natural mineral pools formed by hot springs. Overnight in Pamukkale. Included meals: Breakfast and dinner.
